Not every PCB fits a standard spec sheet. Custom requirements — unusual shapes, special materials, tight impedance, hybrid stackups — need clear communication between designer and manufacturer.
Common custom requirements
- Non-standard board outline
- Controlled impedance with specific tolerance
- Mixed material stackups like FR-4 plus Rogers
- Heavy copper for power applications
- Edge plating or castellated holes
- Blind, buried, or micro vias
How to specify clearly
- Include fabrication notes in your Gerber set
- Provide a stackup diagram for multilayer boards
- List impedance targets with tolerance
- Mention any mechanical requirements like thickness tolerance or warpage limits
