PCB lead time depends on layer count, material availability, hole structure, surface finish, test requirements, and shipping destination. Fast boards are not always simple boards, but simple boards are almost always faster.
Typical lead times
- 1-2 layer prototype: 24 hours
- 4 layer prototype: 2-3 business days
- 6-8 layer board: 3-5 business days
- HDI or special material: 5-10 business days
- PCB assembly: add sourcing and assembly time
What slows production down
- Special materials such as Rogers
- Blind and buried vias
- Impedance control and extra test reports
- Missing or unclear fabrication files
- Component sourcing delays for PCBA
The fastest way to shorten lead time is to send complete files, use standard materials, and allow an engineering review before production starts.
