PCB thickness influences mechanical strength, connector fit, impedance calculation, and final product packaging. The most common standard thickness is 1.6mm, but thinner and thicker boards are widely used.
Common thicknesses
- 0.6mm for compact devices
- 0.8mm and 1.0mm for slim electronics
- 1.2mm and 1.6mm for standard products
- 2.0mm and above for stronger mechanical support
How to choose
Use thinner boards when space is limited. Use thicker boards when the product needs stiffness or larger connectors. For impedance-controlled multilayer boards, thickness should be chosen together with stackup planning.
